Something More About Matthew

Matthew John

So my name is Matthew. But you can call me Matthew. (I don't really respond to Matt, so don't bother. But I have taken a liking to people calling me by my full name, Matthew John. So you could call me Matthew John.)

Before I proceed any further, let me get something off my chest: Don't mess with Kansas, either.

I'm from a really small town. We had to make our own fun. Growing up, a friend and I would play an amazingly entertaining game we liked to call, "Throw the Rock in the Barrel." In case you can't guess, it consisted of 1) walking a mile out of town along a dirt road; 2) finding good throwing rocks along the way; and 3) chucking them at an old, rusted-out barrel in an empty pasture. And then we would walk home. I've settled down quite a bit since then.

I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in geography from Kansas State University. I'm convinced that this was precipitated by my childhood habit of sitting with our family's globe in my lap and running my hands over all the mountain ranges (cordilleras, if you will) as if they were braille.

Favorite place I've ever been? Southeast Alaska and southern Yukon Territory.

In my free time (what free time?) I like to eat stuff that my roommates cook for me, practice my photography, drive home to Kansas and back, and listen to National Public Radio all the while.

Finally, and in conclusion, you will find most of my writings buried under an odiferous pile of socks and underwear somewhere in the Men's Hall. Just follow your nose.
